We have been appointed on multiple projects at Oxford Castle for Oxfordshire County Council. We have acted as client side civil and structural engineers and also PM/CA on selected projects. Notable schemes at the castle include St George’s Tower historic timber restoration and the Castle Mound footpath and lighting restoration.

St George’s Tower is a scheduled ancient monument, so particular care was required whilst working with Heritage England. The works involved the restoration of the first and second floor historic timbers dating from the time of the Spanish Armada (in fact, the specialists concluded that the 1st floor timbers very likely came from captured Spanish vessels) We investigated the extent and cause of the damage to the timbers and produced a schedule of repairs for tender. Post tender, we acted for the client as structural advisors and project managers.

The Castle Mound is also a scheduled monument and also involved working closely with Heritage England.

The works involved the renovation of the footpath and damaged sections of the mound surface, together with a new lighting scheme. We produced an acceptable repair scheme approved by Heritage England and produced a schedule of repairs with plans and details for tender. Post tender, we acted for the client as engineering advisors and project managers.
